Rice exports on rise
ISLAMABAD (March 05 2010): Pakistan is on track to exceed rice exports in the last fiscal year by 1 million tonnes particularly if the government avoids buying supplies to boost local stocks and prices, an industry official said on Thursday.
Pakistan has sent 2.82 million tonnes of rice abroad in the first eight months of the fiscal year ending June 30, compared with 3 million tonnes for the whole of the last year when it fell short of a target of 4 million tonnes after government buying pushed up prices.
